We’ve moved!

As some of you may know we have been in the process of moving to a larger purpose built centre for the best part of a year. On Monday 29th July it eventually happened! (With the help of many hardworking volunteers and a big van)

We have moved from our premises in Matchborough Centre to the Matchborough East Community Centre.

On your marks, get set, BLOG!

As part of our ever expanding Support Across the Spectrum project funded by the Big Lottery our members have created their very own blog. It is for our Spectrum members to upload reviews of anything and everything!

Spectrum member and volunteer Tom is the webmaster who created the blog, writes reviews and also supports other members to not only write their own reviews but teaches them how to upload them too.

The reviews are generally about computer games, movies and music at the moment as that’s what interests our members. They are all written reviews at the moment but we are currently working on some video interview style reviews too, thanks to our new video camera donated by Phil Haslam of HSL Roadside.

We now have 4 reviewers who are uploading to the site and already have more who are interested in getting involved.

If you or anyone you know has Aspergers and would be interested in getting involved then contact us for more information – kayleighfitzgerald@yourideas.org.uk or 01527 502624

Here at Your Ideas we got SAS!

In November we kicked off our Support Across the Spectrum project which is a development of our existing Spectrum Club sessions. We were successful in receiving funding for the next 5 years by the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund (whoohoo!!) The Spectrum Club for those who don’t already know is our work with youngsters who have Aspergers Syndrome.

So this meant the Spectrum Club went from fortnightly Thursday evening sessions for younger (Spectrum Orange) and older (Spectrum Red) members to weekly sessions for both groups and much much more…

The Support Across the Spectrum project has three main aims-

1) Reduce isolation of people with ASD

2) Increase independence of people with ASD

3) Increase mental and physical well being of people with ASD

This is taking the form of weekly friendship groups, weekly drop in, group trips, internal and external volunteering opportunities, film projects, festivals, steering group, review website, monthly social games console nights, healthy lifestyle and independent living skills activities and projects and much more!

Check out the slideshow below to see for yourself what we have already been up to with our brilliant Spectrum project…

Children in Need donations making a difference in Redditch

It’s that time of year again when people start raising funds for the much publicized annual Children in Need campaign. Our project is no different and this year our Spectrum Club members are planning a Halloween party fundraiser.

We have been incredibly fortunate as a project to have benefited financially from this campaign when we received 3 year funding for our ever popular Spectrum Club. Continue reading

September at Your Ideas

This month has been great for indulging in obsessive compulsive behaviours whilst having a mega sort out at the project. We have spent a ridiculous amount of hours organising arts and craft materials and resources into easy to find storage. This was incredibly laborious but massively pleasing! Can’t wait for our groups to get stuck in to making some amazing artwork.

Spectrum Club Snapshot in Photos

We thought we would treat you to an insight into our Spectrum Club world using photographs from a session on March 29th.

The Spectrum Club is currently funded by Children In Need (big thank you to anyone who donates) and is for youngsters diagnosed with Aspergers. On the surface it is merely a youth club session for those with Aspergers, but for the members and their families it is much more .

Aspergers friendly group games, your ideas needed!

Our Spectrum Club, a youth group for young people with Aspergers is growing in numbers and our younger group ( aged 10-15) are stuggling with the concept of group games. One game of Pictionary later and we were left puzzled and mentally exhausted through trying to make a success of the game. We are persistent though and are determined to try a new game every session with the aim of improving their social skills within group settings.
