Apologies for the lack of posts recently, we have doubled our workload this year and have really struggled to find time to keep the blog up to date!
The two big projects that we have been getting off the ground this year are –
-Support Across the Spectrum which is funded by The Big Lottery Fund and enables us to work with young people aged 15-25 who have Asperger’s to reduce social isolation.
-Positive Activities Zone, or PAZ for short. This is funded by Worcestershire County Council and has enabled us to deliver youth club sessions to young people aged 13-19 alongside Arrow Vale Youth Club and Redditch Skate Park and BMX Track.
Other projects we are also delivering at the moment are-
The Re-Start Football Project funded by Sport England which has been a great success and is due to finish in August this year. We are looking at funding to continue this project as it has been very popular.
We are also running our lovely after school art club for young people ages 9-13 but this is currently unfunded so all staff are volunteering to keep it afloat until we secure more funding.
The Spectrum Orange Club funded by Children in Need which funds our weekly friendship group for youngsters aged 10-15 with Asperger’s. This funding runs out in January 2014 but due to its success we are looking for funding to continue this much needed and well loved group.
The With It Group for locals aged 50 and above is still meeting fortnightly and is being run by local couple Alan and Doreen Walker.
Our ESF funded project is coming to an end and has been of great benefit to our project helping support volunteers to gain experience and in some cases employment.
The other big news is that our project is moving home. We are in the process of relocating to a bigger and better purpose built community centre as we have outgrown our current building. The new centre is Matchborough East Soft Play Centre which is roughly a 6 minute walk from our current location. Our local members have assured us they will be coming with us, especially when they found out the pool table was coming with us!
As you can imagine with all of this going on in one little project we have been kept very busy. We definitely aren’t complaining though!
